Tunisia
Situated in the Northeast of the African Continent, between The East and the West, and bathed by the Mediterranean, Tunisia, the three-thousand-year history country, with its 1300-kilometre coastline, benefits particularly from its strategic site at the tourist level.
The beauty of its beaches (providing hundreds of kilometres of fine sand), its cultural and historic treasures, its climate and the typical friendly welcome, are some of its many assets that make it today one of the most widely visited countries in the world.
This modern country counts about 10 million inhabitants and TUNIS, the capital shelters 3 million. It is a dynamic city, of culture and shopping, that possesses a well conserved Medina enjoyable to visit through its alleys, traditional shops, and palaces.
Tunis is situated at less than 2h30 of flight from Paris, less than one hour from Rome. Daily flights are mainly provided by the national company Tunis-Air that caters for the European, African, and Middle-Eastern countries.
The other most important cities are Sousse, Sfax, Hammamet, Bizerte, Gabes and Kairouan.
Tunisia is extensively open to foreigners : several international harbours and airports connect it to the rest of the world. Besides, we can easily move inside the country. Otherwise, no particular vaccination is required. As for the entry formalities, the French and European travellers don't need a visa. Time-lag : Universal time +1. In winter, the time is the same as in France, in summer, there is a difference of one hour with France.
Tunisia is a tolerant Muslim country : besides the Mosques (Zitouna, Kairouan, and others), we find Christian churches and Jewish synagogues, in particular in Djerba, where the famous pilgrimage of Ghriba is organized annually in the month of May.
The official language is Arabic, the spoken language is dialectal Arabic. French is also spoken all over the country. |
