The Rhinoplasty

The rhinoplasty helps people who have problems with the appearance of their nose. It is aimed at reshaping the nose, either on the level of its bony upper part, or of its moving cartilaginous bottom part. Thus, we can straighten, shorten, or decrease the height and the width of a nose in its bony and cartilaginous framework.

It is necessary to well determine the objectives of the rhinoplasty. The patient must explain his desires and the surgeon has to guide him and inform him that this intervention always entails an important transformation of the face.

The intervention takes place the most often under general anaesthesia and lasts about one hour, according to the modifications to do. The hospitalization is about 24 hours.

The postoperative period is painless. After the correction, the surgeon puts greasy wicks in order to maintain the mucous membranes for about 2 - 3 days, and a plaster permitting to maintain the bones of the nose and to avoid a too important oedema (7 - 10 days). There are frequently some bruises at the level of the lids that disappear in the 10 days that follow the intervention.

The results are very satisfactory within 2 months. It will take 6 months to obtain the definitive aspect of the nose, but the definitive assessment of the nose will take place after 1 year.
