Neck Lift

Who needs it?

Neck lifting is intended to persons suffering from premature aging of the neck and who have sagging skin in that area for hereditary reasons.

Aims

Neck lifting allows retightening the skin and the muscles of the neck so that they become like what they used to be prior to the negative effect of time passing. It is the ideal complement of a facial lifting. They generally go together.

Before the operation:

Your medical examinations

Between one week and one month prior to your operation, you must make an appointment with a medical tests laboratory in order to undergo a full pre-surgical check-up. The tests results must be sent to us (by fax, or by e-mail) so that they can be seen and read by our anesthetist doctor. Depending on the test results, other examinations may be required. If you are unable to carry out your examinations before your departure to Tunisia, there is always a possibility to do that on the spot, the day before the operation. It must be known that if there is a contra-indication to your operation, the anesthetist doctor has the right to put off or cancel the operation. No medication containing aspirin should be taken at least 10 days before the operation. You must mention any type of medication you may have taken. It is essential that you refrain from eating, drinking, and smoking for 8 hours before the operation.

With regard to your luggage, you must bring sunglasses, one or two scarves (to cover the bruises), a hat or cap, and full sun block cream.

Getting ready for the operation

You will be taken to your clinic the night of the operation, the time to get settled in your room, to take a shower if needed and to meet with the medical team: your surgeon, the anesthetist doctor, and all the health care staff. The operation takes place the following morning.  Very often, the night before the operation, the nurses will give you a kind of pre-medication in the form of a light tranquilizer to make sure that slightly anxious patients to face the operation with more fortitude. You will be given a hair wash the night of the operation and a careful removal of make-up will be carried out the day of the operation.

Type of anesthesia

Neck lifting is undertaken under partial anesthesia with the administration of an additional sedative if carried out separately, or full anesthesia if accompanied by other processes.

Duration of hospitalization

2 to 3 nights.

Total duration of stay in Tunisia

8 nights/9 days

operation

The surgeon makes an incision that creates two access ways: First, a vertical way that goes behind the ear, another horizontal way of 5 cm runs parallel to the hair birth on the neck. In some cases, it is necessary to proceed with another small incision under the chin and/or a liposuction of the double chin to get a better result. Through these incisions, the surgeon separates the muscles and the skin of the neck, retighten them and then lift them in order to give them a younger appearance. He/she then removes the excessive part and stitches the cuts.

Duration of the operation

The duration of a neck lifting operation varies between 90 minutes and 2 hours.

After the operation

You leave the operating theatre with a bandage round the head, covering the operated areas of the neck. Your surgeon will remove the bandage 24 hours later. The pain is not so severe, largely extenuated by analgesic. The neck may get swollen during a few days; ice compresses are very useful to accelerate and improve the healing process.

Post surgical effects

The swelling lasts approximately one month. It reaches its peak during the first week and gradually diminishes in impact. The bruises may last approximately two weeks. The scars remain hidden behind the ears and under the hair. The operated area may seem insensitive during a few months.

Result

The results of a neck lifting are remarkable and long-lasting. Most patients feel very satisfied with the results. The lifting does not stop the passage of time but your neck will look younger and fresher for a very long time.

Complications

Under the hands of a qualified surgeon, it is not likely that a neck lifting presents any complications. However, any surgical operation, no matter how insignificant it may be, may have some risks and we must think of such risks as a possibility.

Side effects due to anesthesia

Risks of Infections are all the more serious if you are on a corresponding course of antibiotics. Hypertrophic bruising is more marked than usual as it is generated by gene characteristics of the skin. Undesirable frowning of the skin. Bruises. If important this may require draining.

Fluid build-up under the skin. In some cases, the fluids must be drained through suction.

Sensitive changes such as hyposthesy (numbness) of the ear lobe. These are generally of a short duration and will melt away within 180 days.

Work interruption

There is no need for interrupting the work: the recovery stay spent in Tunisia following the operation is very beneficial and enables most of our patients to resume their professional activities as soon as they return home.

Fees

The fees required for a neck lifting varies immensely depending on the patients, the condition of their skin, and their age, etc. . They usually start at 1700 Euros.
