Liposuction

Who needs it?

This operation of plastic surgery in Tunisia is intended for women as it is for men. Nevertheless, about 80% of women in comparison to 20% of men seek at present a liposuction. The results are more obvious on patients that are relatively young whose skin is tonic and elastic, which can easily bend once excess fat has been removed. In some cases, when the skin is so loose, liposuction is accompanied by an abdominoplasty, thigh lifting, or even arms lifting.

Aims

Contrary to many received ideas, liposuction does not in any case lead to a loss of weight but it only remove localized extra-padding cells that resist any diet. It is not indicated in cases of generalized corpulence/stoutness or obesity.

Before the operation

Your medical examinations

Between one week and one month prior to your operation, you must make an appointment with a medical tests laboratory in order to undergo a full pre-surgical check-up. The tests results must be sent to us (by fax, or by e-mail) so that they can be seen and read by our anesthetist doctor. Depending on the test results, other examinations may be required. If you are unable to carry out your examinations before your departure to Tunisia, there is always a possibility to do that on the spot, the day before the operation. It must be known that if there is a contra-indication to your operation, the anesthetist doctor has the right to put off or cancel the operation. No medication containing aspirin should be taken at least 10 days before the operation. You must mention any type of medication you may have taken. It is essential that you refrain from eating, drinking, and smoking for 8 hours before the operation.

With regard to your luggage, you must bring loose and comfortable clothes that are not tight at the level of thighs and the stomach.

Getting ready for the operation

You will be taken to your clinic the night of the operation, the time to get settled in your room, to take a shower if needed and to meet with the medical team: your surgeon, the anesthetist doctor, and all the health care staff. The operation takes place the following morning. Very often, the night before the operation, the nurses will give you a kind of pre-medication in the form of a light tranquilizer to make sure that slightly anxious patients to face the operation with more fortitude. You will have to take a shower with an antiseptic medication (betadine) before the operation.

Operation

After the infiltration of solutions that liquefy the fat substances, the surgeons proceeds with minute incisions of 1 millimeter.

Through back and forth movements, the surgeon sucks the padding cells using canula attached to a vacuum cleaner.

The incisions are then closed by a restorable thread covered with a bandage. The surgeon carries out the incisions in the natural folds of the skin. The small scars caused by the incisions will therefore be totally invisible.

Duration of the operation

The operation lasts between half and two hours, according to the quantity of fat that is to be removed.

After the operation

Once the operation is over, the medical team will take you back to your room, where you will start recovering your senses. You will have to wear a panty day and night. It is equally frequent to have a perfusion in the 24 hours following the operation, this contains analgesic substances and tranquilizers to ease pain if ever and increase the comfort of the patient. When you leave the clinic, you will be able to move and walk but with some difficulty and sense of embarrassment.

Post surgical consequences

Even if liposuction was carried out with a great sense of seriousness by a competent surgeon, there will be ordinary side effects varying from one patient to another, say edema or ecchymoses known to be post-traumatic and very impressive at sight but will wane away after a few weeks. In general, the pains encountered following a liposuction are of moderate intensity and will look more like being aching or stiff all over. Nevertheless, this varies from one person to another according to sensitiveness and the physical condition prior to the operation.

Results

The first results of a liposuction will appear between 1 and 3 months according to the scope of the operated area. However, the skin needs 3 to 6 months to finally retract over the new curves. The final outcome is then appreciated.

Complications

Cases of bruises, infections, phlebitis, anemia or asthenia are rare and seem rather an exception.

Work interruption

There is no need for interrupting the work: the recovery stay spent in Tunisia following the operation is very beneficial and enables most of our patients to resume their professional activities as soon as they return home.

Fees

The fees required for a liposuction varies depending on the affected areas but also on the volume of fat that has been removed. On average, one must reckon :
