Breast Lift

For whom?

Breast lifting (Breast plasty) is destined for women whose breasts are dangling (breast ptose).

Aims

The aim of a breast reduction is to regain a harmonious silhouette at a price of minor scars. Transforming big breasts into normal ones requires a reduction of the (glandular and fatty) volume and the skin envelope. This volume and skin reduction is always associated with a breast lifting (breast lifting) and of the breast areola.

Before the operation

Your medical examinations

Between one week and a month prior to the operation, you must make an appointment with a medical test laboratory in order to go through a full pre-surgical check-up .

Taking medication

You should in no circumstances take a medication containing aspirin at least 10 days before the operation. You should also advise on any medication you may have taken. It is essential that you refrain from eating, drinking or smoking 8 hours before the operation.

Your luggage

As far as your luggage is concerned, you must remember to bring clothing for the upper part with a buttoned covering at the front (you can easily roll that up more easily the first few days after the operation.)

Getting ready for the operation:

You will be taken to your clinic the night of the operation, the time to get settled in your room, to take a shower if needed and to meet with the medical team: your surgeon, the anesthetist doctor, and all the health care staff. The operation takes place the following morning. Very often, the night before the operation, the nurses will give you a kind of pre-medication in the form of a light tranquilizer to make sure that slightly anxious patients to face the operation with more fortitude.

Operation

This operation of cosmetic surgery in Tunisia consists in re-shaping the breast by working on the skin envelope and the glandular tissue. The gland is concentrated and placed in the right position. One must after that re-adjust the skin envelope, something that requires the removal of excess skin in such a way that one ensures a firm hold and a pleasant shape of the new breast. These moves allow a replacing of the areola and the nipple which were situated at a lower level. The skin fringes which have been carved will be stitched after the operation: these stitches will be at the roots of the scars.

3 types of scars are likely to occur:

• The scar around the nipple:

In case of a very moderate breast ptose, it is possible to use a technique that allows to realize a correction of the bustle only with one scar around the areola: It is known as the technique of the round-block.

• A vertical scar

In the presence of a moderate breast ptose, we can realize a method known to be “vertical” which starts from the areola to the line under the breast.


• The inverted “T” scar

In case of a very important ptose, the scar has the shape of an inverted “T” with three components: periareolair, vertical, and horizontal hidden under the breast line. The length of the horizontal scar is proportional to the importance of the ptose.


At the end of the operation, the surgeon applies a bandage taking the shape of the elastic strips in the shape of a bra.

Duration of the operation

The operation lasts 2 hours.

After the operation

After 24 hours, the first bandage is removed and replaced by a special bra (a kind of bra that is used in sports) which will be worn day and night for a whole month. It must be noted that wearing a contention bra is not systematically prescribed by the surgeon.

Surgical after effects

This kind of operation is generally not so painful. Weak pain killers during the first week will be enough. The ecchymoses will fade away within one or two weeks.

Some numbness may be felt at the nipples during a few months; there will also be some difficulties when raising the arms.

The stitches will vanish by themselves.

The patient can lead a normal life except for sports activities which are to be proscribed for a whole month. The patient should refrain from any pregnancy for at least one year following the operation.

The scars: : the scars development follows the schema of a healing maturation and depends on the intrinsic features of the patient’s skin. The healing process of the scars varies in duration from 1 to 2 years. The scars are frequently red and ‘indurees’ during the first months, a period during which there should be a protection against the sun rays (total sun block), and one should apply massage on a regular basis. The state of the scars depends on the surgical technique that has been adopted, and also upon factors that are proper to each patient (age, race, type of skin).

Results

The cosmetic result is correct as soon as the ablation of the bandage has been carried out; but it will improve to reach perfection and a natural state from 3 to 6 months. This time span is necessary for a total smoothing of the breasts. The curve of the breast remains natural and sensitive to hormonal variations.

Complications

Like any surgical operation breast lifting may have some rare complications such as: infection, hematoma or an anesthetic complication.

Work interruption

There is no need for interrupting the work: the recovery stay spent in Tunisia following the operation is very beneficial and enables most of our patients to resume their professional activities as soon as they return home.
