BOTOX® Injection
Facial wrinkles caused by muscular contractions can be treated by Botox®. The contractions of the face muscles create the mimics of the face but cause in the long term facial wrinkles. The best treatments by botox® are:
Other wrinkles and infamous folds are sometime treated at the level of the nose, chin or neck. The muscle which has been weakened and slackened by the botox® doesn’t contract any longer, stopping thus the evolution of the facial expression wrinkles. It is at that point that the botox® treatment may eliminate these wrinkles and prevent their formation. An adequate technique by injection will allow to preserve the muscles required for the lifting of the eyelids and the expression of feelings to maintain a facial expression. The botox® injections are administered in small quantities, in the skin or in the muscles, in the area where wrinkles need to be treated. The needle to be used is very fine and the injections are hardly painful. The effects of the treatment start to be noticeable within 24 to 48 hours after the injections; the maximum effect is obtained after 1 to 4 weeks and lasts three to six months depending on the patients. The interval between treatments is in general between three to six months. Some patients state that the effect may last as long as six to twelve months: These are very often subjects that have undergone many successive treatments. As a general rule, the undesirable effects are felt the first days following the injection and they are very often transitory. Most secondary effects that have been reported are less serious and quite moderate. As for any injection, one can feel pain/burning/stinging, edema and/or hematoma related to the injection. A temporary lowering of the eyelid (ptosis), headaches, pain at the face, redness and partial muscular weakness are the most frequent undesirable effects. The treatment via botilic toxin (botox® ) may be used in conjunction with other esthetic techniques of face rejuvenating such as peeling, laser resurfacing, gap filling substances (hyaluronic acid, Restylane*, Perlane*). The combined use of these techniques enables patients to reach an optimal result and to prevent the development of new wrinkles.
